On July 3rd, 4th and 5th, Alfa Romeo was at Goodwood for the Festival of Speed.
We can almost hear the roar of those legendary models, the P2 Grand Prix, the 8C 2300 Le Mans, Fangio’s 6C 3000 CM, the Carabo and the 33TT 12, as they set off from the Arese Alfa Romeo Museum bound for England.
Stars of the show at some of the festival events were the Carabo in the Cartier ‘Style et Luxe’ competition and the 33 TT 12 , driven by Arturo Merzario, the car that clinched the 1975 World Manufacturers’ title on the Goodwood circuit.
All the cars, except the Carabo, were on show in the Alfa Romeo pavilion, a feast for the eyes of all those avid Alfa fans.
A maplog was set up for this thrilling event, an innovative project that made it possible to follow all the Alfa Romeo events, step by step.
The Arese Museum Director used his mobile phone to record all the Alfa Romeo events for the interactive map, showing the exact location where the photographs and video clips were taken.
All the Alfa Romeos were closely guarded by Stefano Agazzi, Alfa Romeo Museum Director who came all the way from Italy, not only to take care of the cars, but above all to share in on the excitement of the Festival!
Coming soon, the video clips and photos of the whole weekend. Don’t miss them!
Here we are again at the adrenalin-pumping Superbike weekend in Misano.
Although the weather didn’t hold up during the World Circuit 2009, with unseasonal rain and clouds, the races kept everyone enthusiastic and the tension high just the same!
The air was positively electric on the stands and the adrenaline was pumping; track conditions were at their limit forcing riders to change their bikes midway.
Misano and the San Marino Round is one of the SBK classics and some of our readers were lucky enough to see it firsthand.
The general classification came as a great surprise: in first place, Jakub Smrz, a young Czech rider for the Guandalini team. His Ducati outdid all the greats of the SBK circuit, also conquering pole position.
Don’t wait to view the great video filmed by the AlfaMiToBlog team – fantastic, as always!
As promised, Stefano Agazzi, Manager of the Alfa Romeo Historical Museum, has sent us his personal account of the
Mille Miglia 2009.
Unique images and words that come from the heart of an Alfa-lover who is incredibly passionate; it is no accident that he is the head of the Official Alfa Romeo Historical Motor Racing Team.
The AlfaMiToBlog editorial team thanks Stefano and all the mechanics in the Team for the great professionalism and passion with which, once more, they skillfully “motivated” our “Old Ladies”.
Yet again, the Mille Miglia ended leaving a compelling spell behind it. Some Mitomaniacs managed to harness that spell, immortalising some of the best moments of “The most beautiful race in the world”. Enjoy the photos (1 , 2) and the stories told by Ocean and Giuseppe who followed the Freccia Rossa in Verona and Ferrara on our behalf.
As soon as you leave home you realise there’s something different, something magic; it’s in the air, with that unreal quiet; then you realise what it is. That silence you thought you could hear stops; people crowd the streets as if they were in the stands. You take your place. Just a few seconds and a din rips through that unusual somewhat odious shouting.
The horizon lights up and you start to see headlights you haven’t seen for a long time, too long; or perhaps you’ve never seen them. Just a bit longer and you can’t believe your eyes, and almost don’t want to believe it.
Some of the most beautiful cars the human mind has ever conceived are starting to flow before your eyes; you feel you can even see them smiling, despite time gone by that doesn’t seem to have affected them in the least; even time is perhaps not futurist enough to be able to destroy that much beauty.
Cars from an era you didn’t live in but which you regret all the same; you hear them singing free, joyful and can smell their perfume; it’s a triumph for all senses, total rapture. And the longer you stay there, the prouder you are to be Italian, in that profusion of glorious Alfa Romeos, Lancias, Fiats, Ferraris and Maseratis that made history, accompanied by their younger sisters, still making history.
You almost want to go up that German sitting in his F430 with the 1000 miglia sticker and tell him he got it all wrong in life. But you just stay there and enjoy the show...
Ocean - Verona
After the cold winter the sun comes back, the town’s all white again but this time with pollen and the smell of spring invades even the busiest roads. Hundreds of flags colour the roads and people's hearts start to beat for the Palio.
It’s May, a magical month in Ferrara. And that magic is pierced by an arrow, a red arrow.
“The most beautiful race in the world” arrives, bringing out all people’s enthusiasm and then leaving you with an appointment for the next year. 11.47 hours, thousands of people milling along the road to the finishing line for this lap of the Mille Miglia are waiting expectantly. Like every year, I prefer waiting on the bend where they come into the town centre, where they’re still racing to score their best time. Seeing them stop is like breaking the spell, admiring a lion’s mane without hearing its forceful roar.
And then, when you’re starting to get bored, in the distance tyres whistle on the hot tarmac after a sunny day, followed by a roar of engines. First one, then another, then hundreds, you don’t know which one to look at.
I’m in there too, ancient works of art are racing past me, some as elegant as cats, others galloping on the wind like thoroughbred.
And then silence, and I realise that the least one has gone by and I can only just still hear its engine roar through the sound of people talking.. Just like it came, the Mille Miglia magic evaporates leaving us with an appointment for next year.
Giuseppe – Ferrara
Once more the “Coppa delle dame”, or Lady’s Cup, has been awarded at the annual Mille Miglia thousand mile race.
This time it was picked up by a very special team, comprising Francesca Grimaldi, RAI journalist, and
Laura Confalonieri, reporter for "Quattroruote" motoring magazine , in an Alfa Romeo 6C 2300 B Mille Miglia
(the details can be found on quattroruote.it ).
It was the Official Alfa Romeo Team at the event! This very successful first place was achieved thanks to the skills of the Alfa Romeo mechanics, the stars of some truly spectacular interventions: changing a lining in a record 3 minutes flat, was just one of these. As Stefano Agazzi, Manager of the Alfa Romeo Historical Museum and head of the expedition knows, passion is the real drive of every Alfa lover!
The AlfaMiToBlog editorial team will soon be publishing the photo story of this fantastic adventure:
coming soon!
After seeing your proposals, for which we would like to thank smaxs and Raffaele in particular, we have drawn up an official classification. The Team also had the pleasure of participating in the “digging” operations in memory of the F1 year which has just finished. Here are the results: 5 videos of the five most exciting moments in the world. The technical level of the overtakings chosen is very high, but we feel it is right to put the fight to the death of Kimi and Louis in Belgium at the top of the list .. pure heart-stopping! Soon there will also be a video and classification of the all-time most beautiful overtakings chosen by you. Enough for now. Dear MiTomani, let's get our eyes ready!
1) Belgium – Raikkonen vs Hamilton
2) Belgium – Alonso (last lap)
3) Canada – Massa (double overtake)
4) Belgium – Raikkonen vs Alonso vs Vettel
5) Brazil – Vettel vs Hamilton (min. 6.12)
